Tun Tavern, established in 1686 along Philadelphia's waterfront, is celebrated as the traditional birthplace of the United States Marine Corps. On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress tasked Samuel Nicholas with raising two battalions of Marines, prompting him to use the bustling tavern as his primary recruiting headquarters. Aspiring service members flocked to the tavern to enlist, cementing the site's legacy as the foundational home of the Corps. Though the original structure was torn down in 1781, Tun Tavern remains a revered symbol of Marine Corps heritage and camaraderie worldwide.
